Motivation

Documentation of exploring rewards The reason that I came to college was not to just socialize and make new friends and relationships, but to pursue my personal goal of becoming a doctor. I know that being a doctor is a long and tedious way to go, but very rewarding at the end. I have to take 4 years of undergraduate, 4 years of graduate school, 1 year of internship, and 3 years of resident in order to become a doctor. Thinking about it, I thought to myself: How much money will I be making when I become a doctor? What kinds of rewards are there? Are the rewards worth it? In order to answer these questions, I filled out the Exploring Rewards section on page 282 of the book. I have applied this strategy for every classes that I am taking and thought about the no-cost rewards, low-cost rewards, and high-cost rewards. Even though the rigor of my classes are very tough, in the end I get a pretty good rewards. By becoming a doctor in the end, I thought to myself that I would earn a high salary, good reputation, and among the top hierarchy in the society. Low-cost rewards would be the amount of money that comes into my card from my parents on monthly basis, the proud feelings from all the accomplishments that I have earned. No-cost rewards are the high GPA, acquired amount of credits, relationship with professors and peer students, more knowledge on the subjects, and becoming more informed person. Overall, this strategy helped me to explore what I could be earning from a long track that I have to step in order to become a doctor. This freshman year served as a stepping stone of what will be a long journey to accomplish my personal dream goal. This strategy has served me well and in any case when I change my major to something else, I will use this method again to figure out what my rewards will be. This strategy has really set my motivation higher to accomplish the ultimate goal of becoming a doctor. I believe that motivation is one of the most important factor towards the success of college life and this method has helped a lot.

  1. I totally agree with your point "motivation is one of the most important factortowards the success of college life." when I compare to the time when I had motivation and when I didn't, the results differ. When you're motivated enough, you get a satisfying result that didn't make you waste your effort. Especially, when you see the rewards that you will receive after you achieve your goal, it would be so great. Great job!

  2. I also agree with what Andrew said. College life can be rigorous as you go through 4 years of it. Especially when there are so much fun things to do here at campus, it will be hard to stay on focus with your school works. This is where, I think, motivation can do a significant work on us. If we are greatly motivated by something, there is no way we cannot work hard.

  3. Exploring rewards strategy works great. I've seen similar result with exploring rewards strategy and I'm very impressed by the results. In my psychology class last semester, I learned similar theory about this strategy and I know how effective that theory was. So I have confident in the strategy so I will be adapting this to my studying habit as well. The important thing is though, you need to get motivated in the process of doing this.

  4. The rewarding motivation will always lead into better motivation to do your work. What I have learned from my working habits is that whatever that motivates you to do your work, you can continuously follow it, but at the same time, you must follow your high-cost rewards. We all work, and in the end, it will pay for our future, whatever happens, thinking about your future more than thinking about the present or the past will help greatly.

  5. I also used the exploring rewards to increase my motivation. Now that we are college students, we are in time where motivation is more than just a simple necessity to succeed. Motivation should always exist even after we graduate. When the motivation no longer exists in you, that is when you will no longer need to work, hopefully in a good way.
