Out of all the memory strategies that we've learned in class, i've figured that rehearse strategy is the best strategy that works for me. Since I am a pre-med student, I take courses such as chemistry and biology; courses that require great amount of memorization. Thus, I chose to memorize concepts, equations, and definitions by rehearsing method. For Biology, I wrote a definition over and over again until I have memorized it for sure. By writing in the notebook with hand, I was able to re-read the definition over and over, thus, able to understand the material better.
For chemistry, there are lots of equations and concepts to not only memorize, but understand as well. As I was re-writing the material over and over again, I was able to understand the material throughout the process of repeating writing. I really had trouble with memorizing the units in chemistry, involving power exponents with giga, mega, kilo, deci, centi, milli, micro, nano, pico and femto. However, when I repeated writing for second and third time, I have fully memorized all the units.
Overall, the rehearsing strategy really worked great for both of my courses. I hope that it works for everyone and I'm planning to keep using it
Like I said in Andrew's blog, I sometimes use the rehearsing strategy to memorize the materials and I definately find it effective depending on what course I use it at. As I mentioned before, I think it would help a lot when studying the chemistry. But for subjects like history in which we have to know a lot of information, I don't think rehearsing would not hlep much. You are using this strategy in courses that are mostly needed. Good job!
ReplyDeleteRehearse is also a strategy that fits for me. I found that rehearsing the informations and the materials is the best strategy than any other memory strategy. I basically talked about my way of rehearsing in my blog, so I don't think I need to "copy and paste" what I said. Good to see that there is also someone who has the same preference of strategy to me.
ReplyDeleteLike I stated in my post, I am not an inclined writer. I found that writing do not help me to memorize to my fullest abilities. Repetition is what is important in this game, and I guess that continuing to write in order to memorize can help, but I learned that visualizing and relating the material to your own helps greatly. Maybe if I have enough time to actually do it, I will try your REHEARSE strategy. But since you have those challenging courses, it may work on you efficiently. Good work though, a lot of writing never hurts.
ReplyDeleteRehearsing is a strategy that I would normally use for an oral exam for Chinese. Rehearsing information is, in my opinion, good for short-term memorization but when it comes to long-term memorization I think it is a bad choice, well at least for me... But if it works for you, I am glad to hear it. As I have said to other bloggers, I think the best strategy is what works for you the best.
ReplyDeleteI do too use this strategy but not too often. It's good for memorizing things but I prefer Link System strategy because it works better for me. This strategy is particularly little hard to adapt because it's not as flexible as Link System strategy. This is good for courses that are heavy on reading and information, and memorizing things. Overall, this is nice little strategy as well and I like how you adapted and used it on the fitted course.
